With the bench press you can use either a machine or free weights. Using free
weights will work not only the major muscles, but also the smaller fine-control
muscles. The only problem with free weights is that you will need a spotter.
Dead lifts can be done using a bar or dumbbells. Unlike the other exercises,
keep the weight level low while starting out as this exercise is easy to
overextend yourself on. You can combine this with shoulder shrugs or arm curls
and shoulder press when using dumbbells to get an added work out.
